What Is Fat Transfer Used to Correct?
The transferred fat can be used to treat a “sunken” appearance around the eyes, deflated cheeks, and other facial lines or depressions like in the temples and smile lines. The cosmetic fat transfer procedure can be performed alone or in combination with other facial rejuvenation treatments like the facelift or eyelid surgery for comprehensive results.

Good Candidates for Fat Transfer
Ideal candidates for facial fat grafting have experienced volume loss due to aging and desire a natural approach to facial rejuvenation. You must have enough fat tissue available in the donor areas to be eligible for fat transfer. Additionally, you need to be in good overall health and have realistic expectations about the procedure’s outcomes.
The Fat Transfer Procedure
Depending on the amount of fat needed, this procedure may be performed under local anesthesia or with sedation. The fat is harvested through tiny incisions using cannulas (similar to liposuction) before it is spun down and purified.Â
The fat is then transferred to the appropriate areas of the face with even smaller cannulas, using a minimally invasive technique that does not require sutures. The entire process typically takes one to two hours, with most of the time spent carefully processing and purifying the harvested fat to ensure optimal results.
After Your Treatment
Social downtime is minimal, and final results are often permanent. Patients can expect some swelling and bruising at both the donor and recipient sites, typically resolving within one to two weeks.Â
During recovery, patients should avoid strenuous activities and follow all post-operative instructions to ensure proper healing. Most patients can return to work and normal activities within a few days, though complete recovery may take several weeks as the transferred fat establishes its new blood supply.

FAQs
Will I lose weight after a fat transfer treatment?
Fat grafting only involves removing small amounts of fat (usually a few ounces), so any weight loss would be minimal and likely unnoticeable on the scale. The primary goal of fat transfer is facial rejuvenation rather than weight reduction.
I’m already using Botox®. Can I do this, too?
