PRP Hair Restoration
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has many different applications in medicine. At Texas Facial Aesthetics in Frisco, PRP injections are designed to slow hair loss, increase hair mass, and improve the quality and caliber of existing hair. Dr. Matthew Richardson and his expert team often perform PRP therapy at the same time as a hair transplant, or as a standalone outpatient procedure.
What Is PRP?
PRP is the portion of the blood that contains its regenerative properties. We frequently use PRP to reinvigorate weakened or dormant hair follicles, but it is also applied topically as part of:
- Microneedling therapy
- Laser treatments
- Facelift surgery
- Many other aesthetic procedures
Who Is A Candidate for PRP Hair Restoration?
In general, PRP can be an excellent option for hair loss patients who are not pregnant or breastfeeding and have realistic expectations for treatment. Patients interested in PRP for hair loss typically have experienced slower, thinner hair growth over time in the area of concern. If there is no longer any hair growth at all, you will likely need a hair transplant first, which can then be enhanced with PRP.
What Happens During A PRP Treatment for Hair Loss?
PRP therapy is performed in a few simple steps in less than an hour. First, a small amount of blood is drawn from the patient’s arm. This blood is then processed in a centrifuge in order to separate out the platelets and other rich growth factors from the rest of the blood.
Through a series of steps, these platelets, plasma, and growth factors (“platelet-rich plasma”) are completely isolated. They are then re-injected into the weakened hair follicles of the scalp or other desired area.
How Much Does PRP for Hair Loss Cost?
The cost of a standalone PRP hair restoration treatment will depend on how much PRP needs to be obtained and injected, as well as the number of areas being treated. If your PRP therapy is added on to a hair transplant procedure, this will affect the total price of your personalized treatment plan.
After Your Session
When performed as a standalone treatment for hair loss, no special recovery time is required. These patients usually report only very mild soreness or bruising for a brief period. Depending on your treatment plan, you may also be asked to avoid certain hair products like sprays or gels for a few days.
For best results, we typically recommend a series of treatments once per month over the course of three months. To keep enjoying your thicker, fuller hair, we recommend coming in for maintenance treatments every six months.
