What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is an injectable product that fits into the category of injectable facial fillers, but is very unique. Sculptra is made of Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA) and is injected into the deep tissues of the face in order to provide or restore volume. Sculptra is commonly used in “deflated” areas of the face such as the cheeks or temple areas. While most other fillers (such as hyaluronic acid fillers or calcium hydroxylapetite fillers) work by being suspended in a substance that takes the body many months or years to break down, Sculptra is unique in that it relies on the body to create its own collagen in response to the injected material. The body actually breaks down the injected PLLA, but then restores or creates its own natural volume through natural collagen production pathways. For this reason, Sculptra is highly desirable in some patients, and after several sessions, results can last for several years.
