What is HALO®?
HALO® is the world’s first hybrid fractional laser that delivers both ablative and non-ablative wavelengths in a single treatment. This advanced technology targets surface-level skin imperfections and deeper dermal concerns simultaneously — achieving dramatic results with minimal downtime. At Texas Facial Aesthetics in Frisco, HALO® treatments are performed by our experienced laser technicians under the guidance of board-certified facial plastic surgeons Dr. Matthew Richardson and Dr. Jordan Cain.
Which Skin Concerns Can HALO® Be Used to Treat?
HALO® is highly effective on:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Acne scars
- Sun damage and hyperpigmentation
- Melasma (in select candidates)
- Enlarged pores
- Uneven skin tone and rough texture
This versatile treatment can be used to reduce the appearance of the above symptoms on many areas of the body, including the face, neck, chest, hands, arms, and legs. These commonly sun-exposed areas often show early signs of aging and can benefit from targeted resurfacing.
How Does HALO® Work?
The HALO® device contains a dual-wavelength laser used to treat the skin from the inside out. The ablative wavelength improves texture by removing the damaged outer layers of the skin, while the non-ablative wavelength penetrates deeper to stimulate collagen and address more severe hyperpigmentation and scarring. Together, they promote healthier, younger-looking skin with a personalized treatment approach.
Who is a Good Candidate For HALO®?
You may be a great candidate for HALO® if you want to improve skin texture, hyperpigmentation, and early aging signs, prefer a powerful yet low-downtime solution, are in good overall health, and have realistic expectations. HALO® may not be recommended for individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have active acne, infections, or open wounds, have recently used Accutane or other skin-sensitizing medications, or have a history of abnormal scarring or photosensitivity.
The Procedure
Before treatment, a topical numbing cream is applied for comfort. Your provider will then glide the HALO® handpiece across the skin, delivering laser energy (along with integrated cooling technology) in a controlled, even pattern. You may feel warmth or a prickling sensation as the laser works, but the experience is generally very tolerable. The treatment typically takes 30–60 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated and the number of areas.
What to Expect After Your HALO® Procedure
Following a HALO® session, redness and dryness are common. You can expect mild swelling and redness to persist for 3–5 days, with full facial recovery usually occurring within 7–10 days. However, recovery timelines vary depending on the treatment area, as well as individual skin type, treatment depth, and adherence to recovery instructions.
The neck and chest might take up to 14 days to heal, while the arms require approximately 3 weeks. The legs have the longest recovery period at 4–6 weeks. Your final results will continue to develop over time, with skin tightening and improved texture becoming increasingly visible for up to 6 months after treatment.

FAQs
Is HALO® safe for all skin types?
HALO® can be used safely on many skin types, but certain tones can require a tailored approach. A consultation will help determine if HALO® is right for your skin, especially if you have a history of hyperpigmentation or melasma.
When can I return to work or normal activities?
Most patients can return to work within 3–5 days once the initial redness and swelling subside, though this depends on your comfort level and the nature of your work. If your job involves minimal face-to-face interaction, you could feel comfortable returning sooner, while patients in public-facing roles might prefer to wait until healing is more complete.
Will I need to avoid sun exposure after treatment?
Yes, strict sun protection is essential for at least 2–4 weeks following your HALO® treatment in order to prevent complications and optimize results. You should wear broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) daily and avoid direct sun exposure whenever possible during the healing period.
Can I use my regular skincare products after HALO®?
You'll need to temporarily avoid active ingredients like retinoids, acids, and exfoliants until your skin has fully healed. Your provider will recommend gentle, hydrating products for the recovery period and advise you on when you can safely reintroduce your regular skincare routine.
How many appointments will I need?
Visible results can often be achieved in just one or two treatments; however, your provider will create a personalized plan tailored to your specific skin concerns. Some patients opt to undergo a HALO® treatment annually as part of their long-term skincare regimen.
