Xeomin® (incobotulinumtoxinA) is a medication that is injected into the facial muscles to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles. Xeomin® is manufactured by Merz Pharmaceuticals and is FDA-approved to treat cervical dystonia, blepharospasm, and moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows.

Like Botox® and Dysport®, Xeomin® is commonly used for cosmetic purposes to treat wrinkles and fine lines of the forehead, glabella (between the eyebrows), lateral orbital areas (crow’s feet), and lateral nasal areas (bunny lines). In select patients, Xeomin® can also be used to improve down-turned corners of the mouth, vertical banding of muscles in the neck, and wrinkling of the lower eyelids and chin areas.

As the skin ages, it loses elasticity, and as you squint and frown over time, this loss of elasticity can lead to persistent lines. Xeomin® works by temporarily reducing muscle activity, resulting in decreased facial wrinkles. This Botox® alternative contains no additives, hopefully leading to less risk of developing antibodies against the product. With Xeomin®, most patients will start to see results within five to seven days, with typical effects lasting anywhere from three to four months. Using a very small needle, Xeomin® is injected directly into the muscles that cause the lines. There is no need for anesthesia, and treatment takes just a few minutes in the office.
