Many patients are frustrated by the fact that they are unable to grow a full, dense beard, mustache, or goatee. In some cases, there are simply a few areas that are less dense or lacking hair follicles. Whether the goal is to fill in a few patchy areas to make a more even “five o’clock shadow”, cover scars within the beard area, or grow a thick wilderness beard like the men of Duck Dynasty, we are here to help.
Dr. Richardson is fellowship-trained in hair restoration and specializes in all kinds of hair restoration techniques, including hair transplants in men and women, beard transplants, eyebrow transplants, hair transplants into scars, hairline lowering techniques, and others. Beard transplants are not to be performed by novice hair transplant surgeons as many of the techniques require advanced skills and can result in very poor outcomes if performed incorrectly.
The hair for a beard transplant is typically harvested from the back of the scalp similar to other traditional hair restoration techniques. Depending on patient preference and hairstyle, this can be performed utilizing a strip method harvest technique or a follicular-unit extraction technique such as Neograft in our practice. Dr. Richardson will discuss the best options for you during your consultation.
This video describes the follicular unit extraction technique for harvesting of the hairs in a traditional hair transplant or in a beard transplant:
All of our beard transplant procedures are performed in our private, state-of-the-art surgical suite overlooking the water in the heart of Frisco, Texas.
